At that time Vosseller Ave was the "Mountain Road" to Basking Ridge referred to locally as the Basking Ridge Road (Washington's Letters)[1]. Washington's army was in this area in the summer of 1777 and winter of 1778-79. Genl. Wayne's Brigade of 500-600 men in Genl. Lincoln's Pennsylvania Division camped here in 1777.
