Note: The following reviews are several years old, so you should check current area guides for updated ones.
Helga and Albert Marty have created an institution on the West Shore, and they've got a bushel of culinary awards to show for their efforts. With its European stylings, wine cellar dining nook (the special place of the house; seats 12) and cozy environs, this restaurant has a lot to recommend it. You almost expect the waiters to yodel. The menu includes roast duck with orange sauce, pepper steak flamb, beefsteak tartar, and escalopes de chevreuil (grilled escalopes of venison with glazed chestnuts and balsamic vinegar- lingonberry sauce). Desserts include cherries jubilee flamb and Grand Marnier souffl. This is a non-smoking restaurant and bar. Open from 5:30 p.m. daily, except for Monday, and open for weekends only in winter. Open on holidays. 5335 West Lake Blvd., Homewood CA; 6 mi. from Tahoe City, (530) 525-5211.
