Basecamp
A basecamp trip is one where a group camps in only one place over a given amount of time. A pack supported basecamp trip is one where a packer is hired for the use of pack animals to carry group and personal gear to a basecamp located within a one-day day-hike into a park, forest or wilderness area. Leaders plan, buy and oversee meal preparation. Participants share in camp duties, meal preparation/clean-up and go on day-hikes to nearby locations. A highlight trip is one where a group moves and camps in different locations over a given amount of time. Highlight trips hire a packer for the use of packers and pack animals to carry group and personal gear to a number of different camp locations. On some trips participants share in camp duties, meal preparation & clean-up, on others the packer is paid to plan, buy, prepare and clean-up after meals. There are moving and layover days. Moving days involve on-trail and cross-country travel with day-packs of 6-10 miles, and up to +/- 2,000Õ elevation gain/loss. On layover days participants go on day-hikes to nearby locations.
