The Haute Route ski tour with International Alpine Guides - 2018 version
2019 version modified to stay at Albert 1er (8,986') on the French side the first night instead of going to the Trient Hut at 10,400', because the Grand Montet cable car burned to the ground in 2018.
Day 1
Meet in Chamonix in the early evening to discuss the trip and do a gear check
Day 2
Today we take the gondola at the Grand Montet ski resort out of Argentierre to the mid station
area known as Lognon. (The Grand Montet cable car burned to the ground in 2018 and will not
be repaired till at least 2020). We skin up to the Argentierre Glacier and ascend the Col du
Posson using boots and possibly crampons near the top. We then ski down to the Albert 1er hut
for the evening.
Day 3
We ascend the Tour glacier and over the Col Superior du Tour and then ski down to the Col des
Escandies for a short but steep climb in boots and crampons. We then have a great descent
down to Champex, Switzerland, down the Val d'arpette where we transfer by private taxi to the
ski resort village of Verbier. There we take the ski lifts back up to the high alpine terrain and then
ski down to the Mont Forte Hut, where we spend the night. The Mont Forte hut is just in-bounds
at the mega-resort of Verbier, has been recently remodeled, and is very comfortable. Showers
are available for purchase.
Day 4
We leave the Monte Forte Hut and the Verbier area and make our way to towards the remote Dix
Hut. We travel over the Col des Roux, traverse the Lac de Dix and then climb up to the Dix Hut
where we are rewarded with stunning views... A longer day.
Day 5
This day is spent climbing up the Pigne d'Arolla via the Serpintine Glacier. The Pigne d'Arolla (12,454')is
another one of our summits and the high point of the tour. We then make a fantastic descent
down to the Vignettes Hut which occupies an amazing position perched on the side of a large cliff
overlooking the glaciers.
Day 6
We ski over the col de L'Eveque and down the Arolla Glacier before ascending up to the Bertol Hut, built on the side of the cliff. Hundreds of feet of ladders take us to the hut.

Day 7
A long descent into Zermatt. We skin up to the summit of Tete Blanche with spectacular views. Then it's a 6,600 foot and 2 hour descent into Zermatt down the Stockli Glacier and along the Zmutt Glacier, passing under the North Face of the Matterhorn.
