Don and I leave tomorrow for California, so this may be my last email to you. Don't forget the little stuff as you are packing - stuff like toilet paper to use when we are backpacking, a towel to use at the lodge, and a small lock to secure valuables while we are out on the trail. Current weather is on the cool side - perfect for hiking and cool at night. This week it's high in the 60's and low 70's, low in the high 30's and low 40's. I would normally say that we are going to be at a higher elevation when we are out and therefore at cooler temperatures, but because of the snow it may be the reverse, that we will be a little lower and a little warmer. It's hard to imagine for those of us who live where we have been sweltering, but don't get lulled into bringing only summer things. It looks like you will need a fleece and jacket.
I haven't heard from most of you about your arrival, so I will try to not be the worried mother hen, but sometimes that's hard! The phone number at the lodge is 530 426-3632. If at all possible, try to arrive so that you can be settled and ready for a get to know you meeting at 5PM. The address at the lodge is 19940 Donner Pass Rd, Norden, CA. My GPS gets me in the neighborhood, but is never exactly in the right spot. Just to review, to get to the lodge you will exit at the Soda Springs/Norden exit off of I80. Go east (a left if you are coming from Truckee) and go 2.4 miles. Look for the Clair Tappan Lodge sign on the left. Turn left at the sign and park in the unloading area. Continue to walk further up the road and the road will end at the lodge. This is the main entrance. There are 4 Sierra Club trips staying at the lodge while we are there, so check in and then move your car to the lot across the street.
Come with an adventurous attitude and be ready to work, play, and have a good time! Francy
