Our equipment list had hiking poles listed as optional. It's looking more and more like we will have to go thru some snow. Poles with baskets (a round flat piece of plastic on the bottom) work best for this. If you have hiking poles with detachable baskets bring the basket.
I'll see if Clair Tappaan Lodge has some we can use. No one will have to go thru hard snow on a slope without poles. See: donsnotes.com/recreation/winter-hiking.html
