Don's Home Technology Character Sets | Symbols and Icons Char Entity Names and UTF codes
HTML supports character reference of the form (&#number;) where xxx is the decimal code for the character and entity references of the form ¢ using entity names. Some support existed in Navigator 2 but you generally need Explorer 4 (and greater) and Navigator 5 (and greater) for more complete support. Most browsers now support hexadeciman code in the form &#xnumber;
U+xxxx codes are Unicode values (UTF-8 and UTF-16), For example the Euro symbol "" may be coded as:
€ or €, where 8364 is the decimal equivalent of Hex 20AC.
