Under Construction

I'm frustrated because in 1984 I was AT&T's representative on ANSI (American National Standards Institute) X3V1 - Office Systems when PC's were beginning to appear on office desktops.
I was chairman of the User requirements sub-committee and we wrote a white paper describing interface standards for functions like calendar exchange, event/meeting registration that would integrate email, calendaring, scheduling and provide cross platform compatibility. AT&T (Who I represented) , Xerox, IBM and the DOD all agreed to move forward. HP, Apple, Unisys and others thought they could get an advantage by doing it better. Microsoft didn't even attend. "Standards, we don't need no stinking ANSI standards, we'll establish the standards. DOS rules!"
