Meeks Fire June 9, 2021
A fire started along Highway 89 South of Meeks Bay near Rubicon Drive when winds knocked a tree into a powerline.
No homes were threatened but voluntary evacuations were issued.
Northbound lanes of Highway 89 were closed at 3 Ring Road .
It burned 2½ acres.

Angora Fire June 24, 2007
burned 3,100 acres , destroyed 242 residences and 67 commercial structures, and damaged 35 other homes. ... The fire cost $11.7 million to fight, and caused at least $141 million in property damage Caused by an illegal campfire.

Gondola Fire July 3, 2002
burned more than 672 acres in July 2002. The cause was a discarded cigarette butt hear Heavenly Vally. It is unknown whether the cigarette was thrown from Heavenly’s gondola or by a person on the ground. The wildfire spread quickly, encroaching on the South Lake Tahoe community, threatening more than 500 structures.

Martis (Juniper) Fire June 16, 2001
Truckee River Canyon north of Tahoe
14,000 acres
A camp fire jumped its rock ring boundary in their Juniper Hills area camp. Two 18-year olds leapt up and began stomping on the fire that had quickly spread more than 10 feet in two directions outside of the fire’s pit.
Morgan C. Cooper and Christopher A. Austin smelled the smoke and spent two hours trying to extinguish the fire with a hatchet, a blanket and some water before packing up and leaving the area sometime between 6 and 7 a.m. They thought they had successfully extinguished the fire, but still returned later that day after fire crews left the area.
