Genealogy:
Genealogies written around 770-775 A.D. by Mohammed Ibn Ishak connect Mohammed (570-632 AD) with Abraham's son Ishmael (2050 BC). This has been accepted by most Muslims and Christians.
  However, it includes 40 generations, but that is not enough to go back 2620 years to Ismael. Mohammed confessed that neither he, nor anyone else, knew about his ancestors beyond al-Nather bin Kinaneh. Nather bin Kinaneh is the 17th ancestor (abt 4-500 years before Mohammed) in the genealogy which Mohammed recognized as true.
  Historians say that the family of Mohammed lived in Saba-Yemen.
This area was settled by Noah's Great Great Great Grandson Joktan, while Abrahamatic tribes were from Noah's Great Great Great Grandson Peleg, which settled in the northern part of the Arabian Peninsula.

Genesis 25:12-18 says,
This is the account of the family line of Abraham's son Ishmael, whom Sarah's slave, Hagar the Egyptian, bore to Abraham. These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, listed in the order of their birth: Nebaioth the firstborn of Ishmael, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah. 16 These were the sons of Ishmael, and these are the names of the twelve tribal rulers according to their settlements and camps. Ishmael lived a hundred and thirty-seven years. He breathed his last and died, and he was gathered to his people. 1 His descendants settled in the area from Havilah to Shur, near the eastern border of Egypt, as you go toward Ashur. And they lived in hostility toward all the tribes related to them."

Genesis 21:8-21 says,
After Isaac was born Abraham send Hagar and Ishmael of to the desert of Beersheba.

God was with the boy as he grew up. He lived in the desert and became an archer. 21 While he was living in the Desert of Paran, his mother got a wife for him from Egypt.

Beersheba is just south of Jerusalem .

The Qur'an 14:37 talks about Abraham who says,
Our Lord! Lo! I have settled some of my posterity in an uncultivable valley near unto Thy holy House.
The Qur'an [2:125-127] says,
Abraham and Ishmael built the Kaaba (Holy House) at Mecca.

And, in the story of Joseph being sold it refers to Midianite merchants being Ishmaelites, so the Ishmaelites got as far south as Midina. [Genesis 37:28]

Qur'an 42:13 says,
"He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Noah and that which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus - to establish the religion and not be divided therein. Difficult for those who associate others with Allah is that to which you invite them. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back [to Him].."
