The MacBride Principles were written in 1984 by Nobel Laureate Seán MacBride, to stop discrimination against Catholics in Northern Ireland.
Amongst other things they require companies doing business in Northern Ireland to not discriminate based on religion.

The MacBride Principles became the law of the U.S. in October 1998. The U.S. House and Senate passed the MacBride Principles-as part of the Omnibus Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 1999.

Seán MacBride was a founding member of Amnesty International.
