Shifting at stop lights
Automatic: Leave it in Drive.
Everytime you shift back and forth like that, you're jolting every part of the drive train; the axles, the CV joints, the differential gears, the transmission and so on. And that repeated motion--that kind of tightening and loosening--does more damage than letting the car sit there in Drive.

Manual: Shift to Neutral
Holding the clutch down puts pressure on the throwout bering so it will not last as long.
