Lorazepam (Ativan) and Xanax are benzodiazepine drugs that slow your central nervous system (CNS) and provide a tranquilizing effect.
OK for short term ( up to 6 mos.). can be addictive in the long term.

Long Term drugs
Paxil and Celexa are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants. They increase serotonin activity in the brain, which regulates mood.

Paxil is good for treating depression and anxiety but it causes more weight gain, sleepiness, and withdrawal symptoms than other antidepressants.

Celexa is good for treating depression and anxiety. Might be less likely to cause side effects than some antidepressants, but not the best choice for people with heart or liver problems.
