Two issues:
1. Use a different lodge Sunday night.
2. Snow at Donner summit keeps coming.

1. Sunday night.
There was some confusion with another group who has a wedding at Clair Tappaan Lodge (CTL) the Saturday before our trip and they would like us to use another lodge (Hutchinson) about 1/4 mile down the road on Sunday. The CTL is struggling to stay afloat and I would like to accommodate them, but we reserved first and if anyone feels the change is unacceptable we can play hardball with them.
Hutchinson Lodge has one big room downstairs with a kitchen and two lofts with mattresses on the floor. A little more rustic, but intimate and we'll have it to ourselves. It has two wood stoves for heat. It has two wood stoves for heat.
2 bathrooms, 1 - 2 stall shower separate from the bathrooms.
See: https://www.sierraclub.org/outings/lodges/hutchinson.aspx

They will give us the wedding dinner delivered to Hutchinson, but if we feel that is not compensation enough for the inconvenience we can ask for some money back.

I'll try to call everyone to see what you think or call me if you have any questions.

The road to Hutchinson lodge is 0.1 mi. before Clair Tappaan. You can drive right up to the Lodge. We'll meet there Sunday at 4. I'll check a week before to make sure the road is clear. See: https://donsnotes.com/ctl/donner_lodges.html

2. Snow
As I mentioned in my last bulletin there is more snow on the ground than in recent memory and it keeps coming they got 1 1/2 ft. of new snow last week (Thu and Fri. 5/27-28). They could provide snowshoes, but we are looking for alternate sites with less snow. See links on our web site:
donsnotes.com/ctl/introtobackpacking/index.html#weather

Some considerations:
1. As I mentioned before it is more work to hike in snow so keep up your conditioning.

2. Not only will we be going thru snow, but streams we may have to cross will be higher, so high top boots are mandatory.

3. We'll take a dry run with everyone to make sure you are comfortable walking in the snow with a pack.

4. Bring extra sox, because they are likely to get wet.

5. Gaiters (ankle covers that strap strap onto your boots and keep snow from getting in). If you live in an area with snow you might want to invest in a pair. CTL has 4 or 5 you can borrow and I think I can get some from my son.

Low gaiters (should be OK):
- www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___91261 Outdoor Research $20 at Campmor.com
- www.rei.com/product/782779 REI $30
- www.rei.com/product/778001 Outdoor Research Flex-Tex $35 at REI
High gaiters (If you want to want to be really safe):
- www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___91259 Outdoor Research Rocky Mountains $30 at Campmor
- www.ems.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4092467 Outdoor Research Bug Out $35 at EMS

6. One of the alternative sites was mosquito infested according to a leader who used it in the past. I'll try to get mosquito head nets for everyone.

7. One of the alternative sites is 30 miles away, some may be on good gravel roads. Since we are asking people to carpool it means a few of you (probably 4 or 5) will have to drive. I'll be asking you about that also.
