Yoga and Hiking in the Redwoods

What to bring

Weather in the Bay area in July is typically lovely with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s but it can vary, from highs of 90 to lows in the 40s, so when planning what clothing to bring be sure to include good layering options.

Clothing

  • Hiking boots (1)
  • 3-5 pair socks (2)
  • sock liners if you use them
  • shoes/slippers/sandals for indoors and off-trail
  • windproof/waterproof jacket and pants
  • fleece or other warm sweater or vest
  • long-sleeved shirt
  • short-sleeved shirt
  • long pants (3)
  • shorts
  • underwear
  • sleepwear
  • swimsuit
  • Hat with brim
Personal items and miscellaneous
  • bedding - either a sheet (double for couples) or sleep sack and pillow case. (Pillows and blankets are provided)
  • towel, washcloth, soap shampoo
  • possible extra towel if you plan to swim
  • toiletries
  • flashlight
  • earplugs
  • watch or travel alarm
  • prescriptions and over the counter medications
  • backup eyeglasses or contacts
Yoga
  • mat
  • clothing
Hiking
  • day-pack
  • water-bottle(s)
  • plastic lunch containers, 1 for sandwich, 1 salad or leftovers from previous evening meal
  • hiking poles
  • sunscreen
  • sunglasses
  • simple first aid supplies for personal use (moleskin, bandaids, ibuprofen)
  • bandanna
  • camera with plenty of film or memory
  • toilet paper and baggie
  • binoculars
Notes
  1. Your boots should be well-broken in, comfortable, and experienced from many happy hikes, walks with the dog or even to the store. You don't need heavy duty hiking boots for this trip however if you have had problems with your ankles in the past I do recommend higher top footwear over 'walking' shoes or trail-runners.
  2. Socks that wick moisture and don't chafe are best.
  3. Avoid jeans for the trail. Most people don't find them very comfortable for active hiking
